Biography
About Molly Ringwald
Molly Ringwald, an American actress, has been performing since the age of five, when she appeared in a stage production of Alice in Wonderland as the Dormouse. Born in Roseville, California, she started her career early, recording a Dixieland jazz album with her father at age six. By the time she was ten, she was cast in the West Coast production of Annie, and soon after appeared in the TV series Diff'rent Strokes and its spin-off The Facts of Life. Her breakout role came in 1984 with Sixteen Candles, followed by The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, films that made her a defining figure of 1980s teen cinema and a member of the Brat Pack. She was considered the muse of director John Hughes, and her portrayals of moody, intelligent characters resonated with teenage audiences. She also appeared on the covers of Time, Life, and Teen magazines during that era.
In the early 1990s, she reportedly turned down leads in Pretty Woman and Ghost. Moving to Paris in the mid-1990s, she starred in several French films, while also returning to American TV and movies, including the 1994 adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand and the 1996 film Malicious. She continued with stage work, appearing in Broadway productions like Cabaret and Sweet Charity, and took on the role of Anne Juergens in The Secret Life of the American Teenager, which debuted in 2008. In 2010, she published her first book, Getting the Pretty Back. She is also a singer and dancer, having performed vocals on Disney albums in 1980 and starred in musicals like Enchanted April. Just 58 years old, she remains active in the entertainment industry.
Her personal life has been as notable as her career. She was married to French writer Valery Lameignère from 1999 to 2002, and in 2007 she married Greek-American writer Panio Gianopoulos. They have three children, including twins, born in 2009. Her realistic and often angsty on-screen characters were a staple of the 1980s, and she continues to be recognized for her contributions to film and television. Molly stands 5'8" with a slim build, red hair, and brown eyes. She has no tattoos but has various piercings. She has amassed 1.4 million followers on Instagram, a testament to her enduring appeal.
