Biography
About Minami Takahashi
Minami Takahashi is a Japanese singer and former J-pop idol best known as a longtime leader of AKB48. Born on April 8, 1991, in Hachioji, Tokyo, she joined the group in 2005 at age 14 and quickly became one of its most recognizable faces. As General Manager and leader of Team A, she often stood at center for the group's singles and was voted into the 'Kami 7' five times during the annual Senbatsu elections. She graduated from AKB48 in April 2016, after more than a decade with the group.
Her path into the industry began with an audition performance of 'Will' by Ayumi Hamasaki. Off stage, she is known for her love of manga and drawing, and for a special skill at copying pictures by hand. She adores animals, especially cats, so much that she maintains an Instagram account dedicated entirely to her own cat. Her favorite manga include One Piece and NANA, and she generally prefers shōnen titles. Among her favorite artists are flumpool, Aqua Timez, w-inds., and Akina Nakamori. She also loves the anime film Crayon Shin-chan: Calling the Storm! The Battle of the Warring States.
Takahashi favors foods like katsudon and hamburger steak, while avoiding many raw dishes, including sushi, broccoli, and tomatoes. She turns to katsudon whenever she needs motivation, reportedly owns a year pass for it at Hotto Motto, and has said her mother's katsudon would be her ideal last meal. To stay healthy, she eats an apple every day. She describes herself as stubborn and bad at giving up. Her ideal partner is taller than her, funny, and good with money, and she finds men in suits adjusting their collars 'dreamy.' Born with black hair and brown eyes, she stands just 4'10" with a slim build. In May 2019, she married a non-celebrity IT worker who is 15 years her senior.
