Miesha Tate

While attending Central Washington University, a friend encouraged her to join the MMA club. She fit right in, saying, "It really was a bunch of wrestlers." That background in grappling defined her fighting style. Known for her double-leg takedowns, side control pressure, and a body triangle from the rear, she also trained extensively in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, earning a purple belt. Her submission game included armbars, triangle chokes, heel hooks, guillotines, and kimura locks. In July 2011, she became the first woman to submit Marloes Coenen, winning the Strikeforce title. She also out-grappled Olympic medalist Sara McMann at UFC 183, and she notably escaped Ronda Rousey's armbar multiple times, the first fighter to do so.

Tate has appeared in the documentary Fight Life, is a playable character in EA Sports UFC, and starred in the film Fight Valley. She posed nude for the 2013 ESPN Body Issue and graced the cover of Fitness Gurls magazine, which called her "the most beautiful woman in MMA." In 2014, she joined NASCAR driver Kevin Harvick's KHI Management, leading to sponsorships with NASCAR and Budweiser. Since September 2021, she co-hosts Throwing Down With Renee and Miesha on Sirius XM. In 2022, she won the third season of Celebrity Big Brother, capturing four Head of Household competitions.

Off the mat, Tate has been a Seattle Seahawks fan. She attended Central Washington University, where she met ex-boyfriend Bryan Caraway. In 2014, she was credited with saving the life of Caraway's mother, Chris, who suffered an asthma attack while scuba diving. She also helped carry a six-year-old girl with a broken arm while hiking in Nevada in 2016. In 2018, she began a relationship with fellow MMA fighter Johnny Nuñez; their daughter Amaia was born June 4, 2018, and their son Daxton arrived June 14, 2020. Tate retired from MMA with a record of 18-7.
