About Melissa Benoist
Many people first met Melissa Benoist when she took on the title role in Supergirl, but her path to that superhero started years earlier in Houston, Texas. Born on Tuesday 4th of October 1988, she grew up American and Caucasian, and by the time she was 19 she had already begun acting. Her career took off when she played Marley Rose on Glee from 2012 to 2014, a role that made her a familiar face on Fox. Shortly after, she appeared in films like Whiplash and Danny Collins in 2014, then The Longest Ride and Band of Robbers in 2015.
Her big break came with Supergirl, which ran from 2015 to 2021 and made her a central figure in the Arrowverse. In between, she starred in Patriots Day, Lowriders, and Sun Dogs, and in 2018 she played the wife of David Koresh in the miniseries Waco. That same year she made her Broadway debut as Carole King in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. She is also a musician, and she wrote a middle-grade fantasy novel called Haven's Secret, which she published in 2021 with her sister and Mariko Tamaki. The book was named a Kansas Notable Book in 2022.
Off screen, she has been open about her mental health. She has discussed her own struggles with depression and anxiety, which started when she was 13, and she helped launch the IDONTMIND campaign in 2017 to reduce stigma around mental health. She married actor Chris Wood in 2019, and they had a son in 2020. Her Instagram following stands at 4.2 million today. She identifies as straight, has brown hair and blue eyes, stands 5'8", and has a slim build with real, natural breasts. She has three tattoos: a bicycle on her left foot, a feather with the word "free." on her neck, and a wolf on her left wrist. She is known for performing topless in her work, including her role as Stacy Moore on Homeland.
