About Melanie Thornton

Edited by the community

American singer Melanie Thornton was born on May 3, 1967, in Charleston, South Carolina. She moved to Germany to pursue music, initially working as a session singer. Her voice caught the attention of the Eurodance production team Ulli Brenner and Gerd Amir Saraf, who featured her on the songs "Sweet Dreams" and "Tonight Is the Night." Record producer Frank Farian signed her to MCI Records, and she formed the duo La Bouche with Lane McCray.

La Bouche released their debut album Sweet Dreams in June 1995, producing the hit singles "Sweet Dreams" and "Be My Lover," which climbed to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100. After the group's second album, A Moment of Love (1997), was less successful, Thornton left to focus on her solo career. On November 24, 2001, at age 34, she died in a plane crash near Bassersdorf, Switzerland, along with the other passengers on board. She had black hair, brown eyes, and an average build, with natural breasts. Her legacy as a Eurodance vocalist endures through her recordings.
