Biography
About Marie-Mai Bouchard
With shoulder-length blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim build at 5'6", Marie-Mai Bouchard is a familiar face in Canadian entertainment. Born in Varennes, Quebec, on July 7, 1984, she has been active since 2003, building a career that spans music, acting, and voice work. She is a singer, actress, and voice actress, and her natural look is complemented by a small tattoo. She has kept a relatively low public profile, focusing on her artistry.
Her path began early. She took piano lessons and participated in musical theatre, and her grandmother noticed her singing potential. Encouraged by her grandmother, she auditioned for Star Académie, a competition that would change her life. In 2003, she became a finalist, finishing third behind Marie-Elaine Thibert and Wilfred Le Bouthillier. Her pop-rock style was immediately noticed. After the tour ended in 2004, she joined the Montreal cast of Jonathan Larson's Rent at the Olympia Theatre.
She married her producer Fred St-Gelais in 2011, but the couple divorced in 2016. She has been in a relationship with La Voix musical director David Laflèche since 2016, and they welcomed a daughter in 2017. Marie-Mai has also used her platform for advocacy, participating in the anti-bullying campaign Ça finit là in 2011, where she shared her own experiences with bullying related to her ADHD. Her early career was also marked by a suggestion from her grandmother, who encouraged her to audition for Star Académie. She had previously performed in Montreal's Théâtre Musical in 2001. Her journey reflects a blend of talent, family support, and resilience.
