Biography
About Mari Yamamoto
Mari Yamamoto is a Japanese actress and journalist whose early life was shaped by two very different cultures. Born in Japan in 1986, her family moved to London in 1991, only to return to Tokyo in 1994 when she was eight. She has described feeling like an outsider in both places: "very Japanese everywhere in the world" but "wasn't quite Japanese enough" back home.
Yamamoto studied international relations at International Christian University in Tokyo, earning a Bachelor of Arts. She then moved to New York City to train in method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. While there, she was also a member of The Bats acting company at The Flea Theater. Active in her field since 2014, she has been working for over a decade in two professions.
