Biography
About Marguerite Empey
Marguerite Empey was a Playboy Playmate of the Month twice, in May 1955 and February 1956, a rare distinction in the magazine's early years. She was born in Los Angeles, California, to Marguerite (née Andrus) and Arthur Guy Empey, a soldier, author, songwriter, actor, and movie producer. Empey took ballet lessons from Russian ballerina Maria Befefi and later worked as a chorus girl at Bimbo's in San Francisco. In 1955, she married Joe Webber.
Over a 12-year career as a pin-up model from 1955 to 1967, she appeared in more than thirty nudist and adult magazines, gracing the covers of Escapade, Frolic, Jem, Modern Sunbathing, Figure Quarterly, and Monsieur. She was also featured in the August 1975 issue of Esquire. She posed for photographers Peter Gowland, Bunny Yeager, and Russ Meyer, who shot her 1956 Playboy pictorial. The 1967 book Naked & Together: The Wonderful Webbers, by June Lange and published by Elysium Inc., documented the Webbers' nudist lifestyle. She also modeled for vinyl record album covers, including Les Baxter's Jewels of the Sea, Sea of Dreams by Nelson Riddle, Jazz For Relaxation by Marty Paich, Chile con Cugie by Xavier Cugat, and the Japanese release of Bedtime Music by Seiji Hiraoka & His Quartet.
Empey was American, straight, with red hair and brown eyes. She stood 5'3" and weighed 106 lbs, with a slim body type and natural 36D breasts. In 1965 she traveled to Sioux City, Iowa, to testify at the request of a US attorney in a trial involving alleged obscene nudist magazines being sent into the state. From around 1969 to 1980, she devoted herself to teaching belly dancing at the now-defunct Everywoman's Village in Van Nuys, California. She founded Perfumes of Araby, one of the first American belly dancing companies, and coordinated outdoor performances with up to 40 Middle Eastern dancers. She died on August 19, 2008, in Los Angeles at age 76, from complications following surgery for colon cancer.
