She also played Eden Capwell on Santa Barbara from 1984 to 1991, a character who was part of one of the most popular supercouples of the era. Walker earned several Daytime Emmy nominations for her performances, winning once in 1989 for Outstanding Lead Actress.
Born in Paducah, Kentucky, Walker traveled widely during her youth. She lived in Lancaster, California from 1975 to 1978 and attended Antelope Valley High School there. After her junior year, she moved to Troy, Illinois, where she attended Triad High School, was active in the drama club, and graduated in 1979. Later, she married actor Billy Warlock from 1985 to 1987, and was briefly engaged to actor Bronson Pinchot in the mid-1980s. She has one son, Taylor, born in 1989 from her third husband, Stephan Collins, to whom she was married from 1990 to 1991. In 1999, she married Doug Smith and goes by the name Marcy Smith in her private life.
Walker's acting career began in 1981 when she was cast as Liza Colby on All My Children, her first acting job. She had turned down an offer to join the cast of As the World Turns. She received two Outstanding Supporting Actress Daytime Emmy nominations in 1983 and 1984. She won the award in 1989 for a storyline involving her character being brutally beaten and raped. She left the show in 1991. In 1993, she played Tangie Hill on Guiding Light, a role created specifically for her, but the character did not catch on and Walker declined to renew her contract.
Walker returned to All My Children in September 1995. In August 2004, The Wilton Bulletin reported her intention to become a full-time children's ministry director at Hope Church in Wilton, Connecticut, upon the expiration of her ABC Television contract. Her farewell appearance aired on September 28, 2004, with an open-ended exit that left the door open for a return. She made brief reappearances in December 2004 and January 2005, and then left the show again. After leaving All My Children, she accepted a position in Christian ministry based in Huntersville, North Carolina.
In addition to her soap work, Walker starred in several movies of the week, including The Return of Desperado, Bar Girls, Midnight's Child, and Terror in the Shadows. She did not participate in the All My Children reunion on Home & Family in 2017, but footage of her with Michael E. Knight was used.
