Biography
About Marcela Osorio
Marcela Osorio was born in Valparaíso, Chile, and at age 12 her family moved to Barcelona for political reasons. Four years later, she moved to live alone in Italy. Without formal acting training, she made her theater debut at 17 and soon caught the attention of writer Antonio Skármeta, who invited her to star in his 1983 film Burning Patience. She played Beatriz González, the young woman seduced by a postman who plagiarizes Pablo Neruda's verses; the film's 1994 remake, Il Postino: The Postman, became internationally known.
Returning to Chile in 1986, Marcela landed the lead role in Sussi (1987), directed by Gonzalo Justiniano. The story follows a provincial girl who arrives in Santiago and faces men who try to take advantage of her, until a mysterious roommate wins her over. Sussi becomes a symbol of a government campaign and a stereotype of Chilean women; during a tour, she discovers she is pregnant and, in a feverish delirium, hallucinates her lover's rescue. Marcela's performance highlighted the sensuality that would come to define her career.
The actress has remained active since her debut, with a career spanning over four decades. In recent years, she has devoted herself to eastern medicine while continuing to act, attending to patients at the Public Assistance Emergency Hospital (HUAP) in Santiago. This calling began after her first daughter was born, while she was pregnant with a second child. Marcela Osorio is a Chilean actress with blonde hair and brown eyes, known for her slim build and straight sexuality.
