Biography
About Luka Cruysberghs
Luka Cruysberghs was the youngest winner in the history of The Voice of Flanders, taking the title in 2017 at just 16. The following year, she stepped in as the vocalist of Hooverphonic, replacing Noemie Wolfs, who had left the band after four albums. Born in Leuven, Belgium, on December 6, 2000, she grew up with music as a constant presence, though her rise to national prominence came quickly.
Hooverphonic was selected to represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam with their song "Release Me," but the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the contest organizers arranged a virtual replacement performance, "Love Shine a Light," Cruysberghs and her band declined to participate, though her photo appeared among the other entrants making a hand heart. That refusal marked one of the most talked-about moments of that unusual year.
In November 2020, Cruysberghs was let go from Hooverphonic to make way for Geike Arnaert, the band's most commercially successful frontperson. Since then, she has pursued a solo career, building her own catalog as a singer-songwriter. She identifies as bisexual and has amassed a following of around 30k on Instagram.
Cruysberghs is Belgian and of Caucasian ethnicity. At 25, she's still early in her career, and her journey from reality TV winner to Eurovision hopeful to solo artist has already given her a distinctive path in the Belgian music scene.
