About Lisa Gerrard
Lisa Gerrard, born in Melbourne, Australia, began her music career at 19 and has been active since 1980. She co-founded Dead Can Dance with Brendan Perry in 1981, and the group became a cornerstone of neoclassical dark wave. Her distinctive singing style includes glossolalia, an invented language, and she has a dramatic contralto voice spanning three octaves. She also plays the yangqin, a Chinese hammered dulcimer.
Her solo debut, The Mirror Pool, arrived in 1995. She has collaborated with many artists, including Hans Zimmer, Ennio Morricone, and Klaus Schulze. Her work on the 2000 film Gladiator earned her a Golden Globe Award. She also scored Balibo, which won an ARIA Award for Best Original Soundtrack. Over her career, she has received 11 awards from 23 nominations, including two Grammy nominations. Her vocal style is often associated with the 'wailing woman' phenomenon popularized in Gladiator. She is 5'7" tall, has blonde hair and blue eyes, and her measurements are 35-25-35. She has a slim build and natural breasts.
