Biography
About Lina Marulanda
Slim and brunette with brown eyes, Lina Marulanda was a Colombian television personality and model. Born in Medellín, Antioquia, Colombia, she began modeling at age 12. She attended Santa María del Rosario de Medellín High School but later moved to Parra Paris High School, from which she graduated, following conflicts with the directors and nuns. Her adolescence was packed with fashion shows and photo shoots, and in a 2004 interview she admitted she regretted growing up that way. After high school, she studied advertising at Jorge Tadeo Lozano University in Bogotá.
Marulanda debuted as a presenter at CM& News in 2002. She then worked at Caracol News for six years, presenting the 0700 edition and the international section. Beginning in 2003, she presented the entertainment portion of the evening news alongside actress Margarita Ortega and later with model Adriana Arboleda. In December 2005, she led the entertainment portion of Caracol News at 12:30 with Ivan Lalinde. In early 2007, she hosted the reality show Challenge 20-07 on Canal Caracol. That July, she returned to CM& News and also reported on Colombiamoda 2007 for W Radio, where she later joined La hora del Regreso on 24 July 2007.
She was a spokesmodel for major clothing brands and appeared in magazines such as SoHo, Don Juan, Cromos, and G. Her career spanned from 1999 to 2010, roughly 11 years. She was married twice: first to Felipe Chacon (2004–2007, divorced), then to Carlos Oñate (November 21, 2009, until her death). She passed away on 22 April 2010, at age 29, from a fall from her sixth-floor balcony, which was ruled a suicide. She was with her parents, ex-husband, and a doctor at the time, amid divorce proceedings with Oñate.
