About Leelee Sobieski
American artist and former actress Leelee Sobieski was born in New York City on June 10, 1983. She began acting as a child, with her career spanning from 1995 to 2012. At 5'10" with a slim build, blonde hair, and blue eyes, she stood out in her roles. Her breakthrough came in her mid-teens with the film Deep Impact, followed by an Emmy nomination for the TV movie Joan of Arc and two Golden Globe nominations for Joan of Arc and Uprising. In Uprising, she appeared fully nude, a scene that drew attention.
Sobieski, born Liliane Rudabet Gloria Elsveta Sobieski, grew up in a family rich with artistic and literary talent. Her mother, Elizabeth Salomon, is a novelist and screenwriter who also manages her career, while her father, Jean Sobieski, is a French painter and former actor. She speaks fluent French, learned from her father. Her maternal grandfather was a U.S. Navy captain of Jewish heritage, and Sobieski has expressed pride in her Jewish roots. She attended Trevor Day School and was briefly married to actor Matthew Davis in 2008 before marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010.
Beyond acting, Sobieski has a colorful personal history. Her younger brother Robert is a professional magician, and she has assisted him in illusions, including being sawed in half. She has also performed in the rarely staged Block Beheading illusion with magician Hans Klok. In 2012, she officially retired from acting to focus on her work as an abstract artist.
