About Lauren Lavera
Lauren LaVera was born on a Tuesday in June 1994 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She grew up with an early interest in acting and began training in it while attending Temple University, but it was not her main focus at first. She initially planned to pursue a Juris Doctor degree, but instead switched to a major in English and a minor in Italian. Later, she dropped out to work as an optician. The death of her grandmother, who had been an aspiring dancer and actress in her youth, shifted her path. On the same day she quit her job as an optician, LaVera started taking acting classes.
One of her first experiences on a film set was working as a body double for Anya Taylor-Joy, Haley Lu Richardson, and Jessica Sula in M. Night Shyamalan's superhero thriller Split (2016). Her positive experience working with Shyamalan led her to want to become a full-time actress. In 2017, she had a supporting role in Emanuele Della Valle's thriller Wetlands (2017). In 2019, LaVera auditioned for the role of Sienna Shaw in Damien Leone's slasher film Terrifier 2 (2022). She hadn't seen the first Terrifier and deliberately didn't watch it, not wanting it to influence her decision-making during the audition. Leone considered no other actress for the part. That role became her breakthrough, making her a co-lead of the Terrifier film franchise opposite David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown and Samantha Scaffidi as Victoria Heyes. Reviews were positive; IGN said LaVera "rules as Sienna in her angel-winged fantasy armor as a final girl fighting for family, facing her demons, and screaming bloody war cries in Art's mocking face," and Matthew Jackson of Paste wrote that "LaVera, tasked with injecting humanity into the sequel, lives up to this task with pure star power."
LaVera appeared in the mob film Not for Nothing in October 2022. In December 2022, she was cast as Alessa in Joe Lam's horror film The Fetus, opposite Julian Curtis and Bill Moseley. In February 2023, Bloody Disgusting reported that she would star as Lisa Gray in Federico Zampaglione's The Well, which she presented at FrightFest in 2024. In 2023, she was a guest judge on Shudder's The Boulet Brothers' Dragula. In 2024, she played Heidi Morris in two episodes of Law & Order: Organized Crime. She reprised her role as Sienna in Terrifier 3 (2024), which debuted at number one at the U.S. box office with over $18 million, becoming the most profitable film in the franchise. Critics praised her portrayal of trauma and survivor guilt. She also had a cameo Italian voice-over role in Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck, which won the People's Choice Award at TIFF. LaVera is set to star in Darren Lynn Bousman's The Monster opposite Djimon Hounsou, and to reprise Sienna in the reported final Terrifier film, Terrifier 4. She is American, straight, and has black hair and brown eyes. LaVera married her husband in 2014; they met while she was traveling in Europe. In 2021, they bought their first house. She is proficient in Taekwondo, Kun Khmer, and Wushu.
