Laura Leighton is known for starring in Melrose Place, the 1990s prime-time soap that made her a household name. Born on July 24, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, she grew up in the Midwest before heading west. She attended California State University in Long Beach, where she majored in business, and later launched her acting career in 1993. Her height is 5'4", and she has a slim build with auburn hair and blue eyes.

Leighton's filmography includes Skin and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. In 1994, she was cast as the lead in Shake, Rattle and Rock! but broke her leg, and the producers forced her to pull out; Renée Zellweger got the role instead. Before her acting career took off, she worked as a bartender at the Mezzaluna Restaurant in Brentwood, California, alongside Ron Goldman and TV correspondent Nelson Aspen. She also plays the piano.

In 1998, Leighton married actor Doug Savant after a year-long relationship and a six-month engagement. Together they have two children: son Jack Douglas Savant, born in 2000, and daughter Lucy Jane Leighton Savant, born in 2005. She is also stepmother to Savant's two daughters from a previous relationship. In 1996, People magazine named her one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.
