About Laura Branigan
Slim and 5'8" tall, with brown hair and blue eyes, Laura Branigan carried a presence that matched her powerful voice. The American singer left an indelible mark on the 1980s pop landscape. Her signature song, the platinum-certified 1982 single "Gloria," spent a then-record 36 weeks on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for a female artist, peaking at No. 2. It also hit number one in Australia and Canada. Branigan's "Gloria" was a cover of a song by Italian songwriters Giancarlo Bigazzi and Umberto Tozzi.
In 1984, she reached number one in Canada and Germany with "Self Control," a U.S. No. 4 hit originally released by Italian singer Raf that same year.
