Biography
About KT Tunstall
She is a petite, slim Scottish musician with brown hair and brown eyes, standing at 5'2". KT Tunstall, born Kate Victoria Tunstall in Edinburgh on 23 June 1975, first captured attention with a live solo performance of "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" on Later... with Jools Holland in 2004. That moment launched a career that spans decades and has produced eight studio albums, from her debut Eye to the Telescope (2004) through Nut (2022), plus a collaboration album with Suzi Quatro, Face to Face (2023).
Her debut album was inspired by childhood visits to her father's physics laboratory at the University of St Andrews. That record brought Mercury Prize and Grammy nominations, along with BRIT Award wins for Best British Female Artist and European Border Breakers in 2006. Her songs have appeared in films and TV shows including The Devil Wears Prada, Grey's Anatomy, and Ugly Betty, and "Suddenly I See" was even used on the Hillary Clinton 2008 presidential campaign. She has also written music for soundtracks such as Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast and Bad Moms, and she appeared in two episodes of the comedy series This is Jinsy.
Now in her fifties, Tunstall continues to create music that resonates across generations. Her slim, petite frame belies a powerful stage presence honed over 25 years of performing. With real, natural features and a down-to-earth Scottish charm, she remains a distinctive voice in contemporary music, known for her heartfelt lyrics and genre-spanning sound.
