About Kristine Debell

Edited by the community

American actress Kristine Debell began her career far from Hollywood. She was born in Chatham, New York, and raised on a small self-sufficient farm in upstate New York. As a young girl, she took ballet and studied voice. At 14, she began modeling for Macy's. During her freshman year of high school, she auditioned for and won the part of Marta in the musical The Sound of Music.

The following summer, the now-famous Mac-Haydn Theatre opened in her hometown, and she auditioned for the part of Marta again, but producers felt her voice was too mature. They cast her as the naughty postulant instead. That began a fruitful four-performance-season run with the theater. After graduating from high school and spending a year at Berkeley College studying Fashion Merchandising, Kristine modeled for Ford Models.

While with Ford, she discovered the film industry, debuting as the star of the 1976 erotic musical comedy film Alice in Wonderland at age 22. The film was initially supposed to be a softcore X-rated film, but producers later added hardcore scenes. Kristine said she was pressured to perform an unsimulated blowjob on one of the actors and then perform unsimulated oral sex on one of the female actresses for the first time in her life. She later said this hurt her future career.

Kristine starred in a number of motion pictures, including Meatballs (Bill Murray's first film and Ivan Reitman's directorial debut), Blood Brothers with Richard Gere, directed by Robert Mulligan, and The Big Brawl (Jackie Chan's first American film). She also appeared in television pilots in the early 1980s and enjoyed guest-star appearances in episodic television and movies of the week, including Night Court, Eight Is Enough, BJ and the Bear, and the award-winning soap opera The Young and the Restless.

Debell left the film and television industry in the mid-1980s to raise her children on a thoroughbred farm in upstate New York near her hometown. Her passion for theater brought her back to the stage, and she began starring in many regional theater productions. One of her most memorable performances was as Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams' A Streetcar Named Desire. Since moving back to Los Angeles in 2008, she has enjoyed steady work as a film actress, appearing in Hunter with Ron Becks, A Halloween Puppy with Eric Roberts, A Talking Cat?!? with Johnny Whitaker, and several other children's films. Her body of work can be found on IMDb.
