About Kristin Hayter

Edited by the community

Kristin Hayter is an American musician, singer, and pianist. She began releasing music in 2017 and first gained attention under the stage name Lingua Ignota, Latin for "unknown language." Her early albums, Let the Evil of His Own Lips Cover Him and All Bitches Die, were self-released and spread by word of mouth. The latter caught the attention of Profound Lore Records, who re-issued it and put out her third album, Caligula, in 2019. That record met with universal critical acclaim. Her fourth album, Sinner Get Ready, followed in 2021 on Sargent House and earned even wider praise. She drew on her experiences as a survivor of domestic violence for musical and lyrical inspiration, describing her work as "survivor anthems."

In 2023, Hayter retired the Lingua Ignota project, citing the unhealthiness of reliving her trauma through her performances. She adopted a new persona, Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, and released Saved! that same year. Born in Del Mar, California, on June 17, 1986, she is 40 years old. She has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim build, and her chest bears a tattoo reading "Caligula" in Old English lettering. Her Instagram following has grown to 101,000. Her career spans nine years, starting when she was around 31.
