About Keri Hilson
Keri Lynn Hilson, an American singer and songwriter from Decatur, Georgia, began her career in 2002 as a songwriter and backing vocalist under record producer Anthony Dent. At 14, she signed with the girl group D'Signe, which disbanded without releasing music. While attending Oxford College of Emory University, she wrote material for Britney Spears, Usher, Ciara, The Pussycat Dolls, and Mary J. Blige. In 2004, she joined the songwriting-production group the Clutch. Her first Billboard Hot 100 entry came later that year with a guest spot on Xzibit's "Hey Now (Mean Muggin)". Two years later, she signed with Polow da Don and Timbaland's labels, Zone 4 and Mosley Music Group, both under Interscope Records.
Her mainstream breakthrough arrived with Timbaland's 2007 single "The Way I Are", which peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped charts in eight countries. Her 2008 debut single "Energy" led to the album In a Perfect World... (2009), which reached number four on the US Billboard 200 and earned gold certification from the RIAA. The album's single "Knock You Down", featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo, earned a Grammy nomination and matched her highest-charting song. Her second album, No Boys Allowed (2010), had mixed reviews but produced the platinum single "Pretty Girl Rock". She has not released music as a lead artist since 2011.
Hilson's music blends R&B, hip hop, and pop, often exploring themes of womanhood, intimacy, romance, and independence. She also acted, debuting in the film Think Like a Man. She supports charities focused on HIV/AIDS, disaster relief, and education. She has two Grammy nominations, plus a BET Award, a MOBO Award, a NAACP Image Award, and two Soul Train Music Awards. She stands 5'9" with black hair, brown eyes, and a slim build.
