Katie Holmes

Born in Toledo, Ohio, on December 18, 1978, she was born two months premature at four pounds. Her early start may have shaped her determined personality, a trait her parents have commented on. She was the youngest of five children. As a teenager, she attended modeling school and competed in the International Modeling and Talent Association, where she won several awards. But she found modeling unchallenging, so at seventeen she went to Los Angeles to audition for movies. Her second audition landed her a small part in Ang Lee's The Ice Storm (1997), which launched her career.

Her breakout role came as Joey Potter on Dawson's Creek (1998), a show she starred on for six years. During that time, she also appeared in Disturbing Behavior (1998) and Go (1999). She won Best Breakthrough Female Performance at the MTV Movie Awards for the former. In 2000 she starred alongside Michael Douglas in Wonder Boys, and her first leading role was in Abandon (2002). After Dawson's Creek ended in 2003, she took on diverse roles, including Pieces of April (2003), The Singing Detective (2003), First Daughter (2004), and Batman Begins (2005). She was married to Tom Cruise from 2006 to 2012, and they have a daughter, Suri, born in April 2006. She is American, Caucasian, and straight. As of March 2026, she has 3.2 million followers on Instagram.
