Katie Britt

Katie Britt is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the junior United States senator from Alabama since 2023. As a Republican, she made history as the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama and the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate. Before her Senate tenure, she led the Business Council of Alabama as president and CEO from 2019 to 2021, and she served as chief of staff to her predecessor, Richard Shelby, from 2016 to 2018.

Born in Enterprise, Alabama, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama in 2004, then joined Senator Shelby's staff as deputy press secretary. After a stint as a special assistant to the university's president, she attended the University of Alabama School of Law, where she participated in Tax Moot Court, and earned her Juris Doctor in 2013. She practiced law at Johnston Barton Proctor & Rose LLP and later at Butler Snow LLP, where she founded the government affairs branch. In 2015, she took a leave to manage Shelby's reelection campaign, and a year later he appointed her chief of staff, making her a top advisor and head of his Judicial Nomination Task Force.
