About Kandyse McClure

Edited by the community

Kandyse McClure is best known for playing Anastasia "Dee" Dualla in Battlestar Galactica (2004–2009), a role that made her a familiar face to science fiction fans. But her path to acting was far from direct. Born in Durban, South Africa, she moved to Canada and initially planned a career in medicine, working several restaurant jobs along the way. It was her mother who encouraged her to audition for a play at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. That play, Valley Song by Athol Fugard, featured McClure as an 18-year-old South African girl and became a hit. The performance caught the attention of Canadian actor and director William B. Davis, who introduced her to her first agent, Richard Lucas. That connection launched her professional acting career in 1990, and she has been working steadily ever since.

Beyond Battlestar Galactica, McClure has appeared in television series such as Jeremiah, Persons Unknown, The Client List, and Hemlock Grove. She has also lent her voice to animated productions like Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale (2010). Her roles have ranged from drama to supernatural thrillers, showing a versatility that has kept her in demand across genres.

McClure is also committed to philanthropy, particularly with CARE Canada, a nonprofit that fights poverty in developing countries. She travels between North America, South Africa, and the Caribbean for projects that serve communities. She remains connected to her South African roots, balancing her acting career with humanitarian work. At 46, she continues to work, and her Instagram following of 49k reflects a dedicated fan base.
