About Jinx Falkenburg

Edited by the community

Jinx Falkenburg, born Eugenia Lincoln Falkenburg in 1919, was a Spanish-born American actress and model. She began her career in the late 1930s and remained active for nearly four decades, retiring in 1975. Falkenburg's early life was anything but ordinary. Born to American parents in Barcelona, Spain, she earned the nickname 'Jinx' as a child, a name her mother believed would bring good luck. The family later moved to Santiago, Chile, where she spent her formative years. At age two, she made headlines when The New York Sun published a full-page story about her as a 'baby swimmer.' A revolution in Chile prompted the family to return to the United States, settling in Los Angeles, where she attended Hollywood High School. She left school in 1935 at 16 to pursue acting and modeling.

Falkenburg's personal life was as notable as her professional one. In 1945, she married journalist and publicist Tex McCrary. Together, they became known as 'Tex and Jinx' and pioneered the talk show format, first on radio and later on early television. Their interview shows in the late 1940s and early 1950s blended celebrity chit-chat with discussions of pressing issues. Falkenburg's family background added to her public appeal. Her mother, Marguerite Crooks Falkenburg, was an athlete and tennis player, and her younger brother Bob Falkenburg won the men's singles championship at Wimbledon in 1948. She had brown hair and was of Caucasian ethnicity. Falkenburg passed away in 2003 at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy as a trailblazer in broadcast media.
