About Iskra Lawrence
Iskra Arabella Lawrence, born on Tuesday, September 11, 1990, in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, is a British model, actress, and activist. Her name means "spark" in most Slavic languages. She was raised in Kidderminster, Worcestershire from six weeks old, attended Holy Trinity School, Malvern St James, and Bromsgrove School, and was a competitive national swimmer. At 15, she was accepted into the UK National Youth Theatre. Lawrence began her career around 2015 and has since built a multifaceted public life: she is an influencer, a YouTuber, a TikTok star, and a former glamour model, often referred to as a plus size model, though she has said she does not want that label.
Lawrence is perhaps best known as the Global Role Model for the lingerie brand Aerie from 2014 to 2021, when she announced her departure via Instagram. She also modeled for Adore Me. After 13 years of modeling, she made her catwalk debut at New York Fashion Week for Chromat in 2016, and walked in L'Oréal's first fashion show at Paris Fashion Week in October 2017. In 2018, she became a brand ambassador for Marina Rinaldi's Persona campaign, and in 2024 she walked the Cupshe runway show at Miami Swim Week, wearing two looks, including a white floral one-piece. She appeared in the Straight Curve documentary about body image, presented a TEDx talk in 2017, and was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in 2019.
Beyond modeling, Lawrence is a National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) ambassador and creator of the NEDA Inspires Award. She refuses to retouch her own social media photos and actively confronts body shamers online, including a 2016 incident. She has contributed to Self magazine and was the founding managing editor of Runway Riot, a website for women of all shapes and sizes. Lawrence is also a L'Oréal Paris Princes Trust Ambassador. She gave birth to her son in April 2020 and her daughter in October 2024, with her partner, songwriter Philip Payne. She has over 5 million Instagram followers.
