Biography

About Isabel Sarli

Edited by the community

Isabel Sarli was an Argentine actress, beauty pageant contestant, and glamour model. She began her career as Miss Argentina in 1955, which opened doors to international fame. Sarli was introduced to filmmaker Armando Bo in 1956 and soon became the star of his films, starting with El trueno entre las hojas (1958). Her nude scenes in that drama marked a first in Argentinian cinema and sparked criticism, but she continued to work in soft-core films that faced censorship and persecution. Despite these challenges, she achieved international stardom, filming in Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Mexico, Panama, and Venezuela. Movies like Fuego (1969) and Fiebre (1971) reached American and European markets.

Sarli was known for her physical attributes: she stood 5'5" tall, had an average body type, black hair, and brown eyes. Her measurements were 35.43-22.83-35.43, with a 36DD bra size. She was often cast in naturalistic melodramas by Bo, although she also showcased comedic talent in films like La mujer del zapatero (1968). After Bo's death in 1981, Sarli retired from acting and appeared only sporadically in other directors' films. In her later years, she lived in Martínez, Buenos Aires, with her adopted daughter Isabelita. She passed away on June 25, 2019, at the age of 89, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering figure in Argentine cinema.
