Biography
About Holly Macve
Holly Macve's mother once whisked her away "in the night" from her errant father, taking Holly and her sister to live with their grandparents in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire. Her grandfather, Duncan Druce, was a classical composer. She was born in Galway, Ireland, on May 25, 1995, making her 31 years old today. She is an Irish musician with blonde hair and blue eyes. At 18, she moved to Brighton, where she sang at open mic nights while working in a café. It was there that Simon Raymonde, the boss of Bella Union, heard her and signed her to his label. Her first solo album, Golden Eagle, was released in March 2017. It was recorded mostly in Newcastle at producer Paul Gregory's home studio, with extra sessions in Brighton and London. Record Collector called her "an ethereal offspring of Nick Cave blessed with the stark musical backdrop of Johnny Cash's 'American' series of recordings." Her mother's record collection, full of old blues and Bob Dylan, was her first inspiration. She later discovered Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash, and Gillian Welch. For her second album, Not the Girl, she listened to artists like The Shangri-Las, The Beatles, John Lennon, John Cale, PJ Harvey, and Nick Cave. To this day, she continues to perform as a solo artist.
