Hilde Rens

With black hair, brown eyes, and a slim frame, Hilde Rens, known on stage as Yasmine, was a beloved Belgian Flemish singer, television presenter, and radio host. Born on March 3, 1972, in Antwerp, Belgium, she first appeared on TV talent shows at 17 and quickly became a household name through her music and presenting work on Flemish television and radio.

Her sound blended pop and folk, and her hits like 'Dans me,' 'Rusteloos,' and 'Weak' showcased her powerful, emotive voice. In 2004, she released the album Vandaag (Het morgen van gisteren), which included Dutch translations of Leonard Cohen songs. As an openly lesbian artist, she was a trailblazing figure for the LGBTQ+ community in Belgium, using her platform to advocate for visibility and acceptance while balancing her roles as a performer, partner, and mother. She was married to Marianne Dupon at one point.

Her music often dealt with love, loss, and introspection, and it resonated with fans across generations. Yasmine died on June 25, 2009, at the age of 37. Her legacy continues through her songs, which are still streamed and shared, and through fan memorials like the Facebook page 'Yasmine - Hilde Rens' and documentaries such as Dit was Yasmine.
