Biography
About Heather Locklear
Heather Deen Locklear was born on September 25, 1961, in Westwood, Los Angeles. She grew up as the youngest of four children in a family with Scottish and distant paternal Lumbee ancestry. Her mother worked as a production executive for Disney, and her father was an administrator at UCLA. Locklear attended Newbury Park High School before studying at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she began modeling and appearing in commercials for the school store.
Locklear's first acting roles came in 1979 with appearances in Tales of the Unexpected and an episode of CHiPs the following year. After a few bit parts, Aaron Spelling cast her as Sammy Jo Dean on Dynasty's second season. This began a long collaboration with Spelling, who then gave her a starring role on T.J. Hooker opposite William Shatner. Locklear balanced both shows through the mid-1980s, eventually becoming a full-time cast member on Dynasty until its cancellation in 1989. In the 1990s, after a failed sitcom and a Dynasty reunion miniseries, she took on the role of Amanda Woodward on Melrose Place. The spin-off initially struggled in ratings, but Locklear's limited run turned into a regular spot as a special guest star. The show's success continued until 1999, and she earned a First Americans in the Arts award for Best Actress in a TV series for her work. She then starred on Spin City opposite Michael J. Fox and later Charlie Sheen until 2002, followed by the short-lived drama LAX in 2004. Locklear also appeared in the Lifetime movie Flirting With Forty, playing a divorced woman who falls for a much younger man in Hawaii.
Locklear has appeared in seven different Spelling productions over her career, including Dynasty, T.J. Hooker, Matt Houston, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, Hotel, and Melrose Place. She has dated Tom Cruise, Mark Harmon, Scott Baio, and Patrick Muldoon. She was married to Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee from May 1986 to August 1993, then to Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora from December 1994 until their separation in December 2005. The couple has one daughter, Ava Elizabeth, born in October 1997. Locklear later confirmed a romance with Melrose Place alum Jack Wagner in April 2007. She is a registered Republican and contributed to a congressional campaign in 1998. In 2008 she faced public challenges, including a controversial 9-1-1 call, a rehab stay for anxiety and depression, and an arrest for suspected DUI that resulted in a reckless driving plea. Since then, Locklear has maintained a lower public profile but remains active on social media, with 368,000 Instagram followers. She is 64 years old, 5'5" tall, and has blonde hair, blue eyes, and a slim build.
