About Hailie Deegan

Edited by the community

Hailie Deegan made history in 2018 when she became the first female driver to win races in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, a feat she repeated the following season. Her aggressive driving style has been a defining trait throughout her career. In the 2019 season, she declared she was "done playing nice" after a rough ARCA debut. That aggressiveness has drawn both praise and criticism. In 2020, her bump drafting at Daytona nearly spun teammate Tanner Gray, and she later sent Chuck Hiers into the wall. Series veteran Todd Souza called her behavior "full-on disrespect," and owner-driver Bret Holmes suggested she didn't understand the financial stakes of wrecking equipment.

Deegan transitioned from off-road and dirt racing to asphalt in 2016. She competed in the Truck Series full-time in 2021, scoring her first career top ten at Gateway and finishing 17th in points. That same year, she was voted the Truck Series Most Popular Driver, the second straight season a rookie earned that honor. She made her Xfinity Series debut in 2022 at Las Vegas, finishing 13th on the lead lap, the best debut result for a woman in series history. In 2023, she signed a multi-year deal with AM Racing to drive the No. 15 Ford Mustang full-time starting in 2024. She is currently a Ford Performance driver.

Beyond the track, Deegan has built a significant social media presence. As of November 2024, she had amassed 1.6 million Instagram followers, 3.2 million TikTok followers, and 591,000 YouTube subscribers. She has been open about how her online popularity has helped her secure sponsor patience. She also partnered with Ford to deliver 3,325 pounds of turkey to Detroit families for Thanksgiving in 2020, and later collaborated with Joey Logano to deliver hams and facemasks to North Carolina foundations.

Deegan has faced controversies. In September 2020, she called the COVID-19 pandemic a "hoax" on a podcast. In January 2021, she used an ableist slur during a livestream, apologized, and was required by NASCAR to undergo sensitivity training. Politically, she expressed interest in meeting President Donald Trump at the 2020 Daytona 500, which led to Trump signing her helmet.

Born July 18, 2001, in Temecula, California, Deegan is the daughter of Brian Deegan, a motocross legend. She attended Rancho Christian High School and now splits her time between California and Mooresville, North Carolina. She is engaged to dirt track racer Chase Cabre, who also served as her co-driver in the 2022 Mint 400. Her career spans NASCAR's ranks, from K&N to Xfinity, and she continues to compete at age 24.
