Eva Green

Green has starred in numerous independent films, including Cracks (2009), Womb (2010), and Perfect Sense (2011). In 2014, she played Artemisia in 300: Rise of an Empire and Ava Lord in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. She is also known for her collaborations with director Tim Burton, starring as Angelique Bouchard in Dark Shadows (2012), the titular character of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016), and Colette Marchant in Dumbo (2019). For her role as an astronaut mother in the drama film Proxima (2019), she earned a nomination for the César Award for Best Actress. Green starred as Morgan Pendragon in the Starz series Camelot (2011) and as Vanessa Ives in the Showtime series Penny Dreadful (2014–2016), earning critical acclaim and a nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

Green has been living in London since 2005, and has stated that she is happier in England than in France. She described London's parks, people, and humour as great, and noted that taxi drivers there are polite and friendly compared to Parisian ones. She considers herself 'nerdy' and has said that when people first meet her, they find her very cold. She lives alone and leads a low-key life when not working, preferring to relax by the fire with a glass of wine and a good book. She has expressed interests in taxidermy and entomology, and collects preserved skulls and insects.

Regarding her preference for graphic, sexually charged roles, Green described it as 'paradoxical' given her self-confessed shyness, and joked that she might need therapy. She favours dark, twisted characters, as they allow her to feel liberated. She has tried to take a variety of divergent roles to avoid being typecast. Green has expressed interest in returning to theatre and has said she has no plans to work in Hollywood full-time. In 2017, she revealed that Harvey Weinstein made an inappropriate advance during a business meeting but she 'pushed him off'. Green is of Sephardi Jewish, Algerian, Breton, French, Spanish, and Swedish descent.
