Esra Gumus

Esra Gumus, born 2 October 1982 in Ankara, started playing volleyball at a young age and became one of Turkey's most recognizable players. Standing 5'11" tall, she played as an outside hitter and captained the Turkey women's national volleyball team. Her career began with VakıfBank Istanbul in 1995, where she spent five seasons before moving to Yeşilyurt in 2000. She transferred to Eczacıbaşı VitrA in 2004 and later played for Sariyer Belediyesi before retiring in 2023, ending a 24-year career. Straight and of Middle Eastern ethnicity, she remains a respected figure in Turkish sports. With over 10k Instagram followers, she still shares glimpses of her life.

Her journey from Ankara to international courts reflects her dedication. She started around age 16 and competed at a high level for nearly two and a half decades. Her height and skill made her a formidable outside hitter. She is 43 years old now.
