Biography
About Elizabeth Gracen
Elizabeth Gracen spent her early twenties traveling the world as Miss America 1982, a title she held before moving to New York City from a small town in Arkansas. Instead of resting on that crown, she used her scholarship prize money to study acting at HB Studios and photography at the New School. She later relocated to Los Angeles, where she built a career as an actress that spanned over twenty years.
Gracen is best known for her roles in the long-running series Highlander (1992) and Highlander: The Raven (1998). She has appeared in numerous television and film productions, and she also posed for Playboy in May 1992, with the issue headline "Here she is Miss America Elizabeth Ward Gracen." Her work in front of the camera eventually led her behind it. In 2014 she made her first venture into filmmaking with the documentary The Damn Deal, which follows three young female impersonators from Arkansas competing in the Miss Gay America Beauty Pageant system. The film played on the international festival circuit and earned an Award of Merit from the 2014 Accolade Global Film Competition.
In 2012, Gracen founded Flapper Films, a company dedicated to producing inspirational content for multi-generational women. Its premiere short, The Perfection of Anna (2012), met with success on the festival circuit, and the company continues to develop projects alongside the Lineage Dance Company, a non-profit that supports charities and promotes healing through the arts. In April 2016, she published her debut young adult fantasy novel, Shalilly, under Flapper Press, a small publishing house and e-commerce site she formed with Kate Canada Obregon, PhD. The press features original content from artists and thought leaders. Gracen is American, with brown hair and brown eyes, standing 5'10" and maintaining a slim build. She is straight. As of her later years, she remains active as a former actress, model, and beauty pageant contestant.
