Biography
About Elene Gedevanishvili
Elene Gedevanishvili stands just 5'0" tall, but her athletic build and natural 30G bust made her one of the most recognizable figure skaters of her era. Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, on January 7, 1990, she began skating at age five under coach Tamara Anjaparidze. In 2000, she moved to Moscow for better training facilities, working with Elena Buianova and Tatiana Tarasova. At just 13, she won the Georgian national championship in 2003.
Gedevanishvili competed at the senior level starting in the 2005-2006 season. She placed fifth at the 2006 European Championships and reached the final group of the free skate at the 2006 Turin Olympics. The following season was marked by personal upheaval when her mother was deported from Russia amid tensions between Georgia and Russia. Forced to return to Tbilisi, she trained alone on a small rink before eventually moving to the United States. In 2009, she began working with Robin Wagner, who had coached Olympic champion Sarah Hughes. At the 2010 European Championships, Gedevanishvili won bronze, becoming the first Georgian figure skater to medal at a major international competition. She repeated that feat in 2012, taking bronze again in Sheffield, England.
Known for her extraordinary flexibility, she performed the Biellmann spiral and spin, and often executed an arabesque before her double Axels. Her favorite jumps were the toeloop and Lutz, while the loop was her most challenging. She competed in two Olympics, Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010. Away from competition, her figure drew media attention, notably from Japanese sports journalists at the 2010 Olympics who estimated her bra size as G cup, a detail that became widely discussed. She shared swimsuit photos on her official website and appeared in a bikini in the April 7, 2012 issue of Shukan Gendai. Her younger brother, Dmitri Gedevanishvili, is an alpine skier. She maintains an active presence on Instagram, where she has a following of 16k.
