About Dyan Cannon

Edited by the community

Dyan Cannon, an American actress, was born in Tacoma, Washington on January 4, 1937, and grew up with beauty queen roots, holding the title of Miss West Seattle. She made her television debut in 1958, and throughout the 1960s she became a familiar face on episodic shows while also appearing on Broadway and in B-movies. In 1969, her breakthrough role in the sex comedy Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She was nominated in that category again for Heaven Can Wait (1978), for which she won a Golden Globe Award. Her performance in Such Good Friends (1971) also earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination in the Best Actress category. Beyond acting, Cannon produced Number One (1976), which earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film.

Cannon's filmography spans decades, including notable titles like The Love Machine (1971), Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978), Deathtrap (1982), and Caddyshack II (1988). She also directed, wrote, and starred in the semi-autobiographical drama The End of Innocence (1990). From 1997 to 2000, she played a recurring role on the legal series Ally McBeal. In her personal life, Cannon was married to Cary Grant for three years, a relationship she has been reluctant to discuss since their divorce in 1968. Her memoir Dear Cary (2011) became a New York Times bestseller, and in 2023 it was adapted into an ITV miniseries called Archie, with Cannon serving as executive producer. With her 89 years, she remains a significant figure in American cinema.
