About Diana Ross
Diana Ross changed pop music forever as the lead singer of The Supremes, Motown's most successful act of the 1960s. The group still holds the record as the best-charting female group in history, with twelve number-one hits on the Billboard Hot 100. Songs like "Where Did Our Love Go" and "Baby Love" defined an era. Ross left the group in 1970 and built a solo career that matched, and sometimes surpassed, her earlier fame. Her debut solo album gave the world "Ain't No Mountain High Enough." She kept scoring hits across decades: "Touch Me in the Morning," "Upside Down," "Endless Love," and "Chain Reaction" all reached number one somewhere on the globe. By 1976, Billboard had named her the Female Entertainer of the Century. Her records have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide.
Ross also proved herself as an actress. Her first film role, playing Billie Holiday in Lady Sings the Blues, earned her a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination. She also starred in Mahogany and The Wiz, and later appeared in television films like Out of Darkness and Double Platinum. Her achievements are staggering. She is the only female artist to have topped the Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist, as half of a duet, as a member of a trio, and as part of an ensemble. In 1988, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Supremes. She also has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a rare honor.
Her personal life has been as eventful as her career. She became involved with Motown CEO Berry Gordy in 1965, and their relationship lasted several years. Their daughter Rhonda was born in 1971, though Ross was married to Robert Ellis Silberstein at the time. Silberstein raised Rhonda as his own; Ross told Rhonda the truth about her paternity when she was 13. Ross and Silberstein had two more daughters, including actress Tracee Ellis Ross. That marriage ended in 1977. In 1986, she married Norwegian shipping magnate Arne Næss Jr. They had two sons, Ross Arne and Evan Olav. The marriage ended in 2000 after reports that Næss had fathered a child with another woman. Ross called Næss the love of her life. He died in a mountain climbing accident in 2004. Ross remains close to her three stepchildren from that marriage. She has five children in total. She is American, Black, and 82 years old. She keeps an Instagram presence with 808k followers.
