Biography
About Debra Paget
At 5'2" with blue eyes and brown hair, Debra Paget was a Hollywood starlet whose natural 34C figure and slim, petite frame made her a memorable presence on screen. Born Debralee Griffin on August 19, 1933, in Denver, Colorado, she moved to Los Angeles as a child. Her mother, a former actress, encouraged all her children toward show business. At fifteen, Debra made her film debut in Cry of the City. Her big break came opposite James Stewart in the 1950 western Broken Arrow. Fox signed her, and she quickly became one of their most popular stars.
Debra appeared in Princess of the Nile and played a supporting role in the Oscar-winning The Ten Commandments. In 1956, she worked with Elvis Presley in the musical Love Me Tender. Elvis called her "the most beautiful girl in the world," but her mother wouldn't allow them to date. Her first marriage, to singer David Street, was annulled after four months. She married director Budd Boetticher in 1960, but they divorced a year later. By that time her career had stalled, and she chose to leave Hollywood. Her last film role was in the 1963 horror The Haunted Palace.
In 1964, Debra married Chinese oil executive Louis C. Kung and had a son, Gregory. The marriage ended in divorce in 1980. She later became a born-again Christian and hosted a religious program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Now in her nineties, she lives quietly in Texas. Her American nationality is a thread through a career that spanned 1948 to 1965, nearly seventeen active years.
