About Claire Oelkers
Mixed-race (primarily Asian) German Claire Oelkers was born on Wednesday 12th of June 1985 in Düsseldorf, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. She grew up in Grevenbroich near Neuss, attended the local Gymnasium, and passed her Abitur in 2004. Oelkers began acting at 15, in 2000, and has since appeared in over a dozen TV and film productions, including the disaster film 'Die Wolke' (2006) as Ayse. She also trained at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City.
In 2003, she founded the rock band Karpatenhund, fronting as lead singer. Their song 'Gegen den Rest' reached #43 on the German charts and became the official title song for the ARD series 'Türkisch für Anfänger'. The band has been on hiatus since 2010. After a band interview with MTV Germany, she was offered a job on the spot. Within weeks, she was hosting 'MTV News', 'Total Request Live', and 'MTV brand:neu'. That interview was conducted by Joko Winterscheidt. In November 2009, she was the title girl of the German Playboy magazine.
In 2014, Oelkers launched the YouTube channel 'German-Ness', an alternative city guide for Germany, acting as host and producer. Since late 2016, she's been part of the reporter team for ProSieben's 'Galileo', gaining popularity through the 'XDays' segment where she tries out jobs like flight attendant, package deliverer, and vet assistant. Since 2019, she's also been a studio host in 'Galileo', co-hosting the Sunday edition with Stefan Gödde. Since 2021, she hosts the biweekly podcast 'Bye Bye CO2 – Der LichtBlick Klima-Podcast'.
