About Christine Pomponio-Pate

Edited by the community

Christine Pomponio-Pate is a former Fitness Model from Denver, Colorado. She competed in figure competitions, placing at the Figure Olympia and appearing in Muscle & Fitness, Flex, and Ironman magazines. Her athletic background includes playing soccer for ten years and beginning weight training in high school, following her brother's lead into powerlifting. In 1994, a serious car accident interrupted her training. She passed out due to low blood sugar, crossed the median, and hit a truck head-on. The seatbelt failed, and she went through the windshield, suffering severe oral damage. She was out of work for two months and endured six years and eleven surgeries to reconstruct her injuries. The only visible scar is a small one on her lip. She lost her teeth in the crash and had them replaced without anesthesia, and at one point was in danger of losing a leg. She remained positive, saying, 'I'm so lucky to have my life and no physical handicaps. That's motivation to continue to work out and compete.'

She returned to training as rehabilitation, and by 1999 she competed in her first contest, the Colorado State Fitness Championships, winning the overall title. She moved to national levels, competing in the 1999 USA Championships and the 2000 Nationals. At the 2001 Team Universe, she won the short class and earned her pro card. Early success on stage came easily, but gymnastics-heavy routines were harder. She called herself a 'backyard gymnast,' with strong mandatories but basic routines. The creation of the Pro Figure Division in 2003 offered a better fit. After some early struggles, she placed 6th at the 2004 California Pro Figure Championships, then achieved a runner-up finish at the New York Pro Figure and made the Top 6 at the Figure Olympia that year. She repeated 6th in 2005 and improved to 4th in 2006.

Pomponio-Pate is 5'1" with an athletic build, brown hair and brown eyes. She has a 36D bra cup size, and her breasts are enhanced. She began competing while in her mid-20s and was active from 1999 to 2006, about seven years. In addition to competing, she has worked in local television commercials, modeling, and consulting through her website. She announced she would not compete in the 2007 Olympia due to her pregnancy, joking that she would 'stand out in an odd way' at seven months pregnant. She has stated, 'I feel lucky to have my life and abilities after the accident, so I need to take advantage of what I'm still blessed with.' Her story is one of resilience and dedication, and she continues to be an inspiration to many.
