Biography

About Charlotte Dawson

Edited by the community

With her blonde hair and 5'7" frame, Charlotte Dawson was a familiar face on television in both New Zealand and Australia. She started as a journalist and model before becoming a television personality. In New Zealand, she hosted Getaway, and in Australia she hosted The Contender Australia and served as a judge on Australia's Next Top Model. Her measurements were 37–26–30, and she had enhanced breasts.

Dawson's life took a difficult turn in 2012, when she was admitted to St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney after attempting suicide. This followed a much-publicised battle with Twitter trolls. She had been the target of an organised online harassment campaign, in part due to her involvement with an anti-cyber-bullying initiative called Community Brave. A former Australia's Next Top Model finalist found her in a fragile state and rushed her to hospital.

The following year, Dawson announced a new role as an anti-bullying ambassador for the National Rugby League (NRL). Some media sources, such as the Daily Telegraph, accused her of double standards, pointing to her aggressive television persona and her history of discouraging contestants on Australia's Next Top Model. Dawson died by suicide on 22 February 2014, at her home in Woolloomooloo. She was 47 years old. Her death attracted news coverage across Australasia. Her story remains a cautionary tale about online harassment.
