Carrie Fisher, born October 21, 1956, was an American actress and writer. She played Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films (1977–1983), reprising the role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and in The Last Jedi (2017), which was dedicated to her after her death. The Rise of Skywalker (2019) used unreleased footage from The Force Awakens. Her other film credits include Shampoo (1975), The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), The 'Burbs (1989), When Harry Met Sally... (1989), Soapdish (1991), and The Women (2008). She earned two Primetime Emmy Award nominations for guest roles in 30 Rock (2007) and Catastrophe (2017). Fisher also wrote several semi-autobiographical novels, including Postcards from the Edge, and an autobiographical one-woman play and book, Wishful Drinking. She wrote the screenplay for the film version of Postcards from the Edge, earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. Her Wishful Drinking stage show received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Variety Special. As a script doctor, she worked on Hook (1991), Sister Act (1992), The Wedding Singer (1998), and many films from the Star Wars franchise. Fisher was the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. She and her mother appeared in the documentary Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, which premiered at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. She spoke publicly about her experiences with bipolar disorder and drug addiction. Fisher died of a sudden cardiac arrest in December 2016, at age 60, four days after a medical emergency on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She was posthumously honored as a Disney Legend in 2017, and the following year received a posthumous Grammy Award for Best Spoken Word Album. In 2023, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fisher had a relationship with agent Bryan Lourd, with whom she had a daughter, Billie Lourd, born in 1992. Though she sometimes described Lourd as her second husband, they were never legally married. In 2011, she became a spokesperson for the Jenny Craig weight loss program. Her physical specs listed her as 5'1" tall, weighing 105 lbs, with a slim build. She had brown hair and brown eyes. She had no tattoos or piercings.
