Biography
About Carolyn Craig
The dark-haired, youthful-looking Carolyn Craig began her career on the stage at the Santa Barbara Community Playhouse, after her family moved to California. Born Adele Ruth Crago on October 27, 1934, she was the daughter of an engineer and a housewife. She appeared in the TV movie Edgar Allan Poe At West Point in 1955, and also modeled for a series of photos depicting a "healthy housewife." But her big break came in 1956 with the drama Giant, where she played Elizabeth Taylor's sister. Soon after, she took the leading role in the film noir Portland Expose.
She went on to costar with Vincent Price in the 1959 horror film House On Haunted Hill, and made numerous television appearances on shows like Perry Mason, The Rifleman, and The Life And Legend Of Wyatt Earp. Because she looked so young, she was often cast as teenagers. In 1963, she joined the cast of the soap opera General Hospital. Her final acting role came in a 1967 episode of T.H.E. Cat.
Carolyn married businessman Charles Graham in 1957, and the couple had a son, Charles Edward. The marriage ended in 1961. In 1964, she wed Arthur France Bryden, a car dealership manager. That marriage also ended in divorce, in the spring of 1970. Though many of her performances earned good reviews, she never reached A-list status. Tragically, on December 12, 1970, she took her own life at her Culver City home. She was thirty-six. She was buried in an unmarked grave at Inglewood Cemetery in Inglewood, California.
