About Candy Dulfer
Candy Dulfer started life with a saxophone in her hands, and she never put it down. Born on September 19, 1969, in Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands, she is a Dutch musician and influencer. Her career began in earnest when she was fourteen, founding her band Funky Stuff in 1984. Since then, she has worked with some of the biggest names in music.
Dulfer's early years were spent learning music mostly on her own, with just a few months of lessons. She played in a local concert band called Jeugd Doet Leven in Zuiderwoude. At age eleven, she made her first recordings with her father's band, De Perikels. The next year, she played in Rosa King's Ladies Horn section at the North Sea Jazz Festival, where King encouraged her to lead her own band. That advice led to Funky Stuff, which toured the Netherlands and opened for Madonna in 1987.
Her career is marked by high-profile collaborations. In 1988, Prince invited her on stage for an improvised solo, and she later appeared in his "Partyman" video. She recorded with Dave Stewart, performed with Pink Floyd at Knebworth in 1990, and was the featured saxophonist on Van Morrison's A Night in San Francisco. She also played with Alan Parsons in 1995 and joined Prince's band for the Musicology Live 2004ever tour. Her album Candy Store reached No. 2 on Billboard's Contemporary Jazz charts, and her songs "Candy Store" and "L.A. Citylights" hit No. 1 on Smooth Jazz National Airplay. She has released eleven studio albums, two live albums, and one compilation. In 2007, she hosted her own TV show, Candy meets..., and in 2013 she judged the Dutch X Factor.
