Biography
About Asia Carrera
Asia Carrera, born Jessica Andrea Steinhauser on August 6, 1973, in New York City, is a former adult model and porn star, American of mixed-race (primarily Asian) heritage. She was raised in Little Silver, New Jersey, and is of German-Swiss and Japanese descent. A gifted child, she taught herself to read at age four, performed piano at Carnegie Hall twice before age 15, and scored over 1440 on the SAT, earning National Merit and Garden State Scholarships. At 16, she taught English at Tsuruga College in Japan but ran away from home at 17 due to parental pressure, later experiencing homelessness. She attended Rutgers University on a full scholarship, majoring in Japanese and business, but did not graduate due to financial struggles, turning to exotic dancing to support herself. Her dancing career led to nude modeling and, subsequently, to the adult entertainment industry in Los Angeles in 1993 at age 20.
Her adult film career spanned 1993 to 2003, during which she appeared in over 400 films with studios like Vivid Entertainment, VCA, and Evil Angel. She was a contract performer for Vivid from 1994 to 1999, but later sought to break free from her "Vivid Girl" image. Notable films include A Is for Asia (1995), The Dinner Party (1994), Bad Girls 6: Ridin' into Town (1995), and Appassionata (1997). She worked with performers such as Jenna Jameson, Kobe Tai, Rocco Siffredi, Tera Patrick, and Nina Hartley. Asia performed solo and partnered scenes, including anal scenes, though she stated that while she found anal enjoyable, it wasn't something she did in her personal life a great deal. She also had her right labia minora pierced, underwent breast enhancement (now a D cup or larger), and had rhinoplasty.
Asia is celebrated as a trailblazer for Asian-American performers, ranking second on Complex's 2011 list of "The Top 50 Hottest Asian Porn Stars of All Time." She is also known for her intelligence, having a Mensa-level IQ, and for her musical talent as a trained classical pianist. She has been open about personal struggles, including a 2015 DUI arrest, and has spoken about her diagnoses of autism, ADHD, anxiety, and clinical depression. In 2024, she discussed these diagnoses on Reddit. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Utah Tech University, a Master's in Education from Texas A&M University, and a Juris Doctor from St. Mary's University School of Law. Currently, she lives in St. George, Utah, focusing on family, community work, and hobbies like gaming, reading, and writing. She has been married to a private non-industry partner since 2010. Asia is a 90s icon and advocate for sex-positive feminism. She is 5'9" and slim, with brown hair and brown eyes.
