About Ashleigh Barty
Ashleigh Barty is 5'5" tall with brown hair and a natural build. She is an Australian former professional tennis player, born in Ipswich, Queensland, on April 24, 1996. She began playing tennis at age four in Brisbane and won the girls' singles title at Wimbledon in 2011 as a junior. Her early professional career included reaching the finals of three Grand Slam doubles events with Casey Dellacqua by age 16.
Barty took an indefinite break from tennis in late 2014 and played cricket for the Brisbane Heat in the inaugural Women's Big Bash League season, even without formal cricket training. She returned to tennis in 2016 and had a breakout year in 2017, winning her first WTA singles title at the Malaysian Open. She rose to No. 17 in the world, despite having never been inside the top 100 before her hiatus. From 2018 to 2021, Barty collected Grand Slam titles, including the 2019 French Open and 2021 Wimbledon in singles, and the 2018 US Open in doubles with CoCo Vandeweghe.
Barty reached the No. 1 ranking in singles and held it for all but four weeks from June 2019. She also won a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and helped Australia to a runner-up finish at the 2019 Fed Cup. She is an all-court player known for a wide variety of shots and an excellent serve, routinely ranking among the tour leaders in aces. She serves as the National Indigenous Tennis Ambassador for Tennis Australia. She retired in 2022 after a 12-year career.
