About Anya Chalotra
English actress Anya Chalotra was born in Wolverhampton, England, to an English mother and an Indian father. She grew up in the village of Lower Penn with her parents, an older sister, and a younger brother. Her father's ancestral home is in Pathankot district in Punjab, India, and she is of mixed-race descent, primarily Asian. Her upbringing included early exposure to performance through school and youth theatre groups before she pursued formal training in London, completing a foundation course at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and then a three-year degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
She began her professional career in 2018, and she is presently known for her main role as Yennefer of Vengerberg in the Netflix fantasy series The Witcher. The show, which also stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan, Anna Shaffer, Emma Appleton, and MyAnna Buring, has released three seasons to date, premiering in December 2019, December 2021, and June 2023. Beyond screen work, Chalotra has appeared in stage productions including Much Ado About Nothing, which ran until October 2017, and The Village, which concluded in October 2018. In 2020, she was named one of Screen Daily's Stars of Tomorrow.
She has expanded into voice acting and audio projects. In July 2020, it was announced she would headline the voice cast of the sci-fi animation NEW-GEN, and in December 2020 she voiced Sabrina in the BBC Sounds podcast The Cipher. A television short film, No Masks, aired on Sky Arts in late September 2020, based on testimonies from frontline workers during the pandemic. In January 2024, it was announced she will play Circe in the DC Universe, beginning with the animated series Creature Commandos.
