About Anna Chicherova
A tall, slim figure with brown hair, Anna Chicherova is a Russian high jumper whose career spans nearly three decades. Born on 22 July 1982 in Belaya Kalitva, Russian Federation, she began competing internationally in 1999 at age sixteen. Her greatest triumph came at the 2012 London Olympics, where she won gold, and she also took the world title in 2011. She has twice been world runner-up, in 2007 and 2009, and added bronze medals at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships.
Her Olympic bronze from 2008 was later stripped after a retest found the presence of turinabol, a banned substance. The medal was reallocated to Chaunte Lowe. After serving a disqualification that ended in July 2018, she returned to national competition and jumped 1.90 meters, then asked to compete at the 2018 European Championships. Early in 2019, at age 36, she twice cleared 2.01 meters indoors, matching the Masters W35 world record, though indoor marks are not officially recognized for that record. In September 2019, she was denied clearance for the World Athletics Championships.
Despite the setbacks, she remains active in the sport. She is mixed-race, primarily Asian, and stands 5'11" with a slim build. Her Instagram following is around 10,000, where she shares moments from her career and training. She has been active for 27 years, a testament to her longevity, though her path has been marked by controversy as well as achievement.
