German drummer Anika Nilles was born on 29 May 1983 in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria, and grew up in Mannheim. After school, she worked in social education before leaving that career to pursue drumming full-time. She later earned a degree in popular music from the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim.
Anika launched her career on YouTube in the early 2010s, when she was around 27 years old. Since then, she has released three full-length albums with her backing band Nevell: Pikalar (2017), For a Colorful Soul (2020) and False Truth (2025). On 6 October 2025, she was announced as the drummer for Rush's 2026 North American mini-tour.
