Biography
About Andreea Raducan
Andreea Raducan is a petite, athletic woman with black hair and brown eyes, standing at 4'11" and weighing 90 lbs. She is a Romanian former gymnast, now a journalist and TV host. Born on the 30th of September 1983 in Bârlad, Vaslui, Romania, she began gymnastics training at the junior national facility around age 12 and competed internationally from 1996 to 2002.
During her senior career, Raducan won Olympic and World Championship medals on every apparatus except the uneven bars. She claimed three individual World Championship titles: floor exercise in 1999 and 2001, and balance beam in 2001. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, she helped Romania take team gold and earned silver on vault. She originally won the all-around gold but was disqualified after testing positive for pseudoephedrine, which she said came from cold medicine given by a team doctor. Her case went to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which exonerated her of wrongdoing but did not return the medal. The doctor received a ban for two Olympic cycles.
The next year, Raducan won five more World Championship medals. She retired in 2002 and completed university studies in journalism. She has since worked as a sports announcer and media personality, and she currently hosts TV programs.
